News from Germany: school staff Explores the organic gardens of Bonnekamphöhe, in essen

On May 2, 2025, the staff of the Heckerschule in Essen-Werden, Germany, spent a truly special team-building day. The goal was to raise awareness of sustainable nutrition and to convey practical approaches to food education. The teachers decided to visit Bonnekamphöhe, an exclusive three-hectare natural garden in the heart of the city, which not only invites relaxation but also offers a wonderful space for creative educational activities.

A green oasis in the heart of the city

Bonnekamphöhe is far more than just a natural garden. Here, the connection between education, nature, and community exchange plays a central role. Under a bright sunshine, the teachers explored the wide range of opportunities this special place has to offer. From growing fresh fruit, herbs, salads, and vegetables to workshops and joint activities, the teachers’ enthusiasm was clearly visible.

Inspiration for your school garden

Upon arrival, the teachers immediately sensed the inspiring atmosphere of the garden. Numerous vegetable plants and fruit trees lined the paths, inviting visitors to discover their own passion for healthy eating. The Heckerschule staff used the time not only to exchange ideas, but also to develop innovative concepts for their own school garden.
